Ty Gullickson was in net for the win. It took four games into the regular season for our Huskies to hit the winning ways with a solid 4 -2 victory over the Slave Lake Wolves. The visitors got off to a fast start with a powerplay goal early  in the first. As the period moved forward it was evident that the Pups were getting into their groove as they carried the play out chancing the the Wolves. Finally their efforts were rewarded in the last two minutes with Tyler Norris tipping a point shot from Jordan Gies with Wyatt Anderson getting the second assist. This set the stage for the local squad to score another three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead to the final minutes of the third. Cody Hildebrand scored the 2-1 goal in the second period with assists to his linemates Robbie Sidhu and Brighton Campbell. Next to hit the scoresheet in the third was Jayton Wieler who rippled the twine for his second of the season with help from  Norris. A nice powerplay goal by Dylan Houle assisted by Cayle Bell and Blair Karasiuk put the game on ice at 4-1. The Wolves scored late goal to close the game at 4-2.

Travis Mclean got the win in goal with a solid effort turning aside 33 shots. The Huskies defense core also did a good job clearing the front of the net providing Mclean a clear look at numerous shots that he turned aside. The Huskies first win was a good team effort all around.

Next up for the Huskies will be a quick trip to Beaverlodge on Oct. 20.

The Pup's Next home games will be Thursday Oct. 25 (Sexsmith), Friday Oct. 26. (Fairview) and Sunday Oct. 28 (Slave Lake).

With their exhibition season completed, the Huskies are now "chomping on the bit" to hit the ice for the regular season. The Pups finished the preseason at two and two with the new players and the younger returnees getting their fair share of the ice time. Now it's time to kick off the regular season against the age old rivals the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks.

With the majority of the team returning from last year, it is this veteran presence that is ready to open the season at home on Thursday October 4 at the North Peace Arena. Puck drop is 8:00 pm. Tickets are available at the gate.

The boys are excited to play a high intensity brand of hockey with the support of Fort St John hockey fans all season long.

In addition to our website, Huskie fans can keep current on our Facebook (fsj huskies.com) page and Twitter (fsjhuskies.com).

See ya at the Rink!!!!
